how to get an agent for acting?

Blunder Asked: how to get an agent for acting?

Hi,

I'm 20, and have always been a passionate and talented actor.

When applying for University, i was 50/50 about doing either drama, or business studies, as i have also made a lot of money as an ebay entrepreneur when i was younger.

I chose the business studies option…. and am now thinking it was not the right choice.

Over half way into the year now, am set to get a 1st for this first year (not a big feat considering the levels set for the first year) in business, yet i still get people telling me that i should be doing drama, or be presenting, or be on TV every time i go out!

Whenever there is a camera on me, i feel alive, and where others say they feel scared or pressured in front of a camera or crowd…. that feels my element, i'd easily say that i feel most comfortable and natural when there is either a large crowd watching me, or i am on camera.

Having achieved a B for drama A-level (should have got an A but the written side let me down!), i have some qualifications in this field, yet am thinking that if i switch course next year to a more theatrical Uni thing…. I'll be facing the 300% rise in fees, and to be honest…. whilst practitioners such as stanislavski, etc. can teach elements of acting, in its raw form, it is a talent, as well as a passion, there is not a definititve theory or equation that can be taught to turn somebody into an actor!! so i feel like maybe switching the course and facing the extra fees in the future may be pointless!

I Just wanted to ask about acting agencies, and how i could perhaps submit pictures, and a brief video portfolio of my acting, or personality to an agency online, or some project that i could work on to try and see whether there is any point in me persuing this acting career whilst i continue my business course at uni (obviously if it proves fruitful, i would happily drop out to prioritise my passion).

From what ive read online, agents find you, and in that case, you need to be enrolled on an acting related course/actively involved in theatre productions, as well as have a lot of luck! Given that i currently am working on my business course, it is difficult to have obligations to other things such as theatre groups, and even then, the chances of getting spotted by an agent in a small time theatre production are minimal at best.

Therefore, i was wondering if there is any website, or agency, where you can submit your headshots, clips, details, etc. and then they can either decide whether to pursue you as a client, or not, or submit you for auditions, acting work, etc. regardless!

Basically, i am seeking advice from people who are in similar situations to me in regards to being prospective actors, and seeking attention and work from an acting agency

thanks for your help (and sorry for the long post if you did read it all!)

Reasonable competent international payment processor?

The Amazing Sammy Asked: Reasonable competent international payment processor?

Hey everybody. I'm looking for a payment processor that resides outside of the US, that'll be able to handle taking payments from my website, where I plan to sell smaller volumes (I anticipate $90k total sales per year) of digital blogging products. I've been researching this all day, and haven't been all that impressed with the vendors that Google is sending my way. The website will be hosted in Hong Kong, if that's any help. Can anyone point me in the general direction of a credible international payment processor? I would like the ability to handle USD and Euros. Thanks.

As a regular Internet user for 10-12 years, don’t you hate the dominance of the big players?

WanderingMinstrel Asked: As a regular Internet user for 10-12 years, don’t you hate the dominance of the big players?

There was a time in our lives when Internet symbolised freedom and recognition for small-time entrepreneurs. Not the much case anymore – I hate dominance by companies like Facebook, Google and Youtube and Wikipedia everywhere I go…..I'm sure there has to be sections of the Web where I'm not bombarded by their ubiquity. I need greater choice in deciding whether I want their big corporate offerings.

I just switched to Safari browser to get rid off my Google chrome habit, I use webcrawler instead of Google search…kind of a Luddite but I feel better this way.

Should I learn to invest at my age?

Aaron Asked: Should I learn to invest at my age?

So right off the bat, i'm 16 and I just turned 16 as well. I'm not that sort of person who thinks the stock market is a 'get rich quick scheme', I have actually done a lot of research on alot of aspects to the stock market like day trading, proprietary trading, hedge funds, brokers etc. I have two books that are extremely good (The Intelligent Investor and One up on Wall Street). So I don't want any negative advice/opinions that a 16 year old wants to learn and potentially start when I'm 18.

I've always found the business world a passion to me (Currently got a 100% score on my two year business GCSE score which I have 1 month left of..), but the finance world looks more my type than say the entrepreneurial world, however I do intend to be an entrepreneur when I grow up, perhaps own my own brokerage or hedge fund?

But is it advisable that I start now? Or should I put it off until it's like a little too late (30+) Primarily I want to be a stockbroker or investment banker (yeah I know it's a d***s job!) To be perfectly honest, I am kinda passionate about the whole stock market as it's finance-orientated and I love money. I'm not materialistic but I know if I can become good and knowledgeable about it then I can become financially secure and have a good upbringing for my children when they come around during the recessions.

So what's everyone's verdict? Should I get involved or not? Is it something like 'once you're in you don't get out'?

Thanks, any website links or any advice is much appreciated!

Who is the winner of web design?

I was guessing it would be Dreamweaver, but what else do professional web designers use from day to day? I know photoshop is still a huge part of web design btw. I'm a long time graphic designer, but never touched on web design really. Do you use HTML or flash, mysql? I heard that WordPress is really awesome for your clients cause they can do blogging themselves once the site is built. What website languages & tools do you use for a good website? (forgive me I don't know the website lingo lol)
